The Boys Next Door

The Boys Next Door by Jennifer Echols is about almost sixteen year old, Lori. Lori has had a crush on Sean for like ever. She sees him everyday because they are neighbors. Adam is Sean's younger brother and also Lori's classmate and best friend. Lori caught Adam's girlfriend, Rachel, with Sean. Lori and Adam fake date to make Rachel jealous and show Sean that Lori is girlfriend material. Lori and Adam go mud truck racing and write their names on the "couple bridge." things go down hill at a party though and Lori's life becomes busy with her birthday coming up and the Crappy Queen Festival. When the plot doesn't go exactly as planned what will Lori do? Boys Next Door is a really good summer read. I read this book last summer but no matter how many times you read this book it doesn't get old. I already know what is going to happen but I still get excited at the Climax every time. This book has some surprises and a lot of drama and humor. I hope you read this book because it is a really good summer read.

Celestra Series

The Celestra Series is by Addison Moore. Book 1: Ethereal Book 2: Tremble Book 3: Burn Book 4: Wicked Book 5: Vex Book 6: Expel Skyla Messenger has just moved with her mother, sister Mia, new step dad Tad, step brother Drake, and step sister Melissa to Paragon where she makes new friends and enemies. Skyla has just found out that she is one of the three Celestras left. The counts are trying to kill off all the Celestras because they were in a war. Skyla moves into a house where a girl her age was murdered on prom night. Skyla lives in Chloe, the murdered girl, room and becomes best friends with Chloe's old best friend and even dates Chloe's ex boyfriend, Logan. Logan's "cousin" Gage is a Levatio which means he can see things into the future and is positive that he and Skyla will marry. At first Skyla doesn't want that but soon gets caught in a love triangle. When Marshall a.k.a. Mr. Dudley saves her life then later becomes her math teacher, Skyla becomes seriously confused. This series is really really good. I haven't written even half of the twists and turns or I would ruin the books. These books are full of surprises you won't see coming like who betrays wh, and who your real friends are and who your enemies are.

Princess Poppy(one of Rose's eleven younger sisters) is part of the princess exchange to make new alliances. She finds herself in Breton where her mother was from with Prince Christopher. Cinderella in Cleats

Whitney Berringer has always loved football. Her dad taught her the sport and died on the field two years ago. She used to play football with her dad and Jason Victorini and his dad every Sunday. But things changed once Whitney's father died. Jason stopped talking to her until she tried out for Ash Valleys football team and almost replaced him. Coach Harrington couldn't play her because she was a girl in a man's sport said Jason. Well she'd show them. With only a couple members of the team backing her up, Scott Marino and Brendon, see her obvious talent for the sport. When Whitney gets cut from Ash Valley she tries out to join another schools football team, gets in, and becomes starting quarterback. She gets them many wins and a few losses. On the field she meets her boy friend, Colt. They date for awhile but break up when Jason shows up at Sophie's(Whitney's best friend) party. Jason wants to talk to Whitney about how he was sorry for abandoning her when her dad died and for asking her out while still dating Elisabeth to make her mess up in football tryouts. They go for a walk then start dating. To get to Nationals she must play against her new boy friend, Jason. Whitney wins but Jason supports her every step of the way.

Princess of the Midnight Ball

Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George reminds me of a retelling of the movie Barbie and the 12 dancing princesses, but I like Jessica Day George's version much much better. The story begins with Queen Maude making a bargain with the horrible King Under Stone. Queen Maude and King Gregor of Burch of Westfalin have not been able to produce an heir to their throne. They have also been at war with Analousia for a very long time and were worried that they would lose the war. Queen Maude made a bargain with King Under Stone(he cant go into sunlight and isn't a vampire but is kinda like one) that if he used his magic to let her produce an heir and win the Analousian war. In return Queen Maude must dance for King Under Stone almost every night but little did she know that she would bare 12 girls in 11 years, die, and have her daughters dance for King Under Stone and his 12 half human sons who plan to make the princesses their brides. The oldest princess is Princess Rose who is eighteen. Every night the 12 flower named princesses must dance at the Midnight Ball for King Under Stone and dance and be courted by his sons until dawn where the King Gregor finds his daughters fast asleep and their shoes totally worn out. Every night maids and guards watch the princesses but are put under an enchantment and fall asleep at 11 o'clock.  King Gregor and bishop Schelker decide that whichever prince of a different kingdom who could figure out what the princesses did each night would win the kingdom and a princess of their choosing. Many princes have tried and died in bizarre accidents. Soon the evil bishop Angier is sent to Westfalin and accuses the palace of witchcraft and threatened to have the governess hung.

Galen is a soldier returning from the war with no family because they were killed in the war. His only family is the Orms(palace gardeners of Westfalin and very honored). On his way to Westfalin, Galen, is nice enough to share his only food with an old crone who turns out to have an invisibility cloak and also happens to know Galen"s name without him telling her. Galen goes to Westfalin, meets his family, works in the palace gardens were he meets Rose, startles her, Rose falls in a fountain and all the princesses become sick. Galen decides to help the princesses, mainly Rose because they fancy each other. But can Galen and Rose break King Under Stone's curse and be free of him forever? Or will the princesses have to marry King Under Stone's sons and never see the sun or their father again while Galen dies a bizarre death? You will have to read this awesome book, Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George, to find out. I highly recommend this book because it has a lot of surprises, is written well, and is just really really good for those of you that like fairy tale retellings , magic, humour, and romance.

Anastasia's Secret

Anastasia's Secret by Susanne Dunlap is about Grand Duchess Anastasia Nicholaevna Romanova a.k.a. Russia's last princess. Some people believe that Anastasia escaped the horrible massacre that befell the imperial family but no one knows for sure. It is said that jewels were sown onto the four grand duchesses' jackets and that the bullets from the Bolshevik soldiers bounced off of the duchesses like a shield. Over 200 people have pretended to be the grand duchess, the most famous being Anna Anderson. Susanne Dunlap's historical fiction has Anastasia fall in love with a guard named Sasha that she met when she was younger and survive that fateful night. I think Susanne Dunlap did a great job writing this story. She has also written The Musician's Daughter which I read a few years ago and really enjoyed as I have enjoyed Anastasia's Secret.

Golden

"Golden" by Cameron Dokey is  a retelling of Rapunzel except there is a twist. Rapunzel was born bald and has been ever since the day she was born and doubts she will ever grow hair. You may think you know Rapunzel's story but the way Cameron Dokey tells it is different and really good. Rapunzel's parents live next to a sorcerer, Melisande. Rapunzel's mom craves rapunzel(its a vegetable and looks a little like a cabbage) and swears she will die without it. Rapunzel's father of course doesn't want her or the baby to die. A sorceress was feared an usually avoided unless you were seeking out her help. Instead of going to the door and asking Melisande for some of her rapunzel, Rapunzel's dad snuck into Melisande's garden and stole some even though he knew it was very wrong. He got away with it the first time but the second time Melisande caught him. Melisande told Rapunzel's father that until Rapunzel was born his wife could have all the rapunzel she wanted but if Rapunzel's mom could not love Rapunzel the way she was, Melisande would take Rapunzel and raise her as her own.  Rapunzel's mother was very beautiful and cherished her beautiful golden hair above all else so when Rapunzel was born completely bald Melisande took her for that was the deal. Melisande named the bald baby Rapunzel and they moved away from the village where Rapunzel would not be tormented for being different. In their home far from others, Mr.Jones(a tinker) and Harry befriend Rapunzel and Melisande. Rapunzel never knew that Melisande has a daughter, Rue, who had a spell cast over her and Melisande believes Rapunzel is the only one who can help her. This book is really surprising and really good. I strongly recommend it. The ending is very surprising but of course you'll have to read to find out.
