Flipped

Flipped by Wendlelyn Van Draynen is about a girl named Julie and a boy named Bryce. They are next door neighbors and their relationship is complicated. Julie has liked Bryce ever since they were seven and he first moved in. How could she not fall for his beautiful blue eyes? Bryce on the other hand fells different. How could you like a girl who secretly sniffs your hair during class? Now they are older and start to feel differently. Things become complicated when Bryce's grandfather who just moves in befriends Julie and has her and her family over for dinner.

This book has made me burst out laughing so suddenly that my sister screamed. The movie is also great. My cousins gave me this book for my birthday because they thought I would like it and I do. Of course there are surprises in the book that I haven't mentioned not to ruin it for you. I LOVE this book and have read it many times. Hopefully you will read it and like it too.

  1. There's a movie? Sweet!
I love Van Draynen's Sammy Keyes books. So this one made you laugh out loud? Those are my favorite kinds of books - the ones that can surprise and entertain.

I like a story that shows characters growing up and changing. It reminds me of growing up (but here was no one whose hair smelled good in my young world.) Characters can have a history that exists outside of the book but that cam be brought into the story. When an author has a full back-story of their characters, I think the narrative can be really strong.

I think I have this in the room library.
